Lessons from my mom


Happy Mother's Day to you all, whether you're a mother by birth, a step-parent, foster parent, or (like me) a dog parent. I look at my mother and reflect on how similar and different we are. Like most moms, she annoys me. She will talk me to death at least three octaves above normal if given a chance - but she's my mother. She's my living example of how resilient and determined a woman can be, even with multiple obstacles placed in front of them.

Keep yourself balanced


With such a busy week ahead of us all, I thought it would be great to remind everyone (especially myself), that balance is key. The road to living a healthier lifestyle will not always be an easy one. It's ok to splurge - maybe even indulge, but eventually you have to tip the scales back to being even again. Diets are temporary fixes, so forget them. We all have different views on what an ideal body type, lifestyle, or even what being "healthy" actually means. We could also argue all day on what you should look out for. Weight is just a number, however there are some more important numbers to be on the lookout for, including your blood sugar, cholesterol, blood pressure, BMI and waist circumference.

Again, what you put into your body will surely manifest itself outwardly eventually. This also means avoiding (as much as you can anyway) negative people, thoughts and actions. Those go right into our bodies and can manifest layer as despair, anger and fear. You don't need that. This week think about doing a detox. Think about how the food you put in your mouth will nourish your body, and how the thoughts and people you surround yourself with, will nourish your mind.

Jetlagged Tuesday

Back from my short trip to California on the red eye, and it all still feels like such a blur. I spent the day yesterday doing all the things the tourists in New York do like:
1. Annoying gawk at everything. I couldn't help it, I was sort of embarrassed for myself, but whatever, I'm glad I got it out of my system before I go back next week.
2. Snap pictures at anything, and everything. Then I immediately instagrammed it. I'm well aware I need an instagram intervention.
3. I walked aimlessly, looking everywhere but in front of me. In New York, I would have been pushed off the sidewalk perhaps, but out in Beverly Hills, no shoves or
"love taps" this time around.

I still need to decompress and detox from all the crap I ate the past two days. Smothered fries, churros, tequila, burritos.. oh I ate it all. With a big smile too. Ms. America was a great experience, so much to recap, but first, a well-earned nap.
